• The Afterneath sounds a lot like it looks – a wizard in a cave in a box. You are the wizard – or sorceress, if you prefer – and the cave is your instrument’s signal, vast, expansive, and magical. Do you go inside? Roll a D20 to proceed!

Once inside, a reflection of light from an unknown source catches your eye, and you notice a bizarre sheen on the walls of the cave. You timidly inch closer to the walls of the cave. Placing your hand gently on the cavern wall, you feel the rock move. The cave is alive! Alarmed, you emit a loud gasp, which reverberates throughout the subterranean landscape. Upon further listening, it appears as though the reverberations of your voice are in fact a swarm of short digital delays which may be used to create wild and cavernous reverbs, or scattered, short, rhythmic delays with bizarre characteristics.

Controls

Length: Controls the decay length of the reverb.

Diffuse: Adjusts the spread of the reverb. Sharper with more attack counter clockwise, more ambient and washy as you turn it clockwise.

Dampen: Clockwise for brighter tones, counter clockwise for darker tones.

Drag: This digital reverb is made up of a bunch of short delays, this separates the delay lines creating a stuttering, pingy effect. This is the coolest control on the Afterneath, we highly advise slowly turning this while you let notes ring out.The Drag can be put under voltage or expression control using the “EXP” jack located on the side and operates in 9 different modes which are selected by the small “Mode” control. These modes are: Unquantized, Unquantized with slew, Unquantized volt/octave,Chromatic scale, Major scale, Minor scale, Pentatonic scale, Octaves & fifths and Octaves. These modes drastically change the way the Drag control functions, especially while using an expression control or CV or a cool warped speed effect. More delay as you turn it counter clockwise, more reverb as you turn it clockwise. 

Modes: The Modes control changes the way the Drag control functions. The LED will change colors indicating which mode you are in.

• Unquantized: Smooth, unquantized response over the operating range 
• Unquantized with Slew: Smooth, unquantized response over the entire operating range, but with a musical slew that is reminiscent of turning the varispeed knob on a vintage British tape delay. The “Drag” will lag behind the knob or cv changes, but then quickly catch up.

• Unquantized Volt/Octave: Smooth and unquantized, yet scaled to align with the 1v/octave curve to allow melodic modulation of audio in the buffer, or control the frequency of self-oscillation like a voltage controlled oscillator.


• Chromatic Scale: Quantized 1v/octave to the chromatic scale


• Minor Scale: Quantized 1v/octave to the minor scale


• Major Scale (Lydian): Quantized 1v/octave to the major scale (Lydian)


• Pentatonic Scale: Quantized 1v/octave to the pentatonic scale


• Octaves & Fifths: Quantized 1v/octave to omit all but octaves and fifths


• Octaves: Quantized 1v/octave to omit all but octaves 

Reflect: Controls the regeneration of the reverb, turn clockwise for more wash and echos, counterclockwise for less. This will self oscillate if turned up high.

Mix: alters the alchemical balance between the input signal and the effect. The Afterneath does not go fully wet but does lower the level of the input signal as you raise this control to create the appearance of a fully wet reverb.

Power

This device takes a standard 9 volt DC power supply with a 2.1mm negative center barrel. We always recommend pedal-specific, transformer-isolated wall-wart power supplies or multiple isolated-output supplies. Pedals will make extra noise if there is ripple or unclean power. Switching-type power supplies, daisy chains and non-pedal specific power supplies do not filter dirty power as well and let through unwanted noise. DO NOT RUN AT HIGHER VOLTAGES!

Expression Jack

This is an expression pedal control jack for the Drag. The Afterneath requires an expression pedal with a value of 50k, we recommend the Moog EP-3 or similar.  While it will work with a standard 10k expression pedal, a 50k expression pedal will allow you to access the full range of each mode. 

Tip is the wiper, Ring is 5v and Sleeve is ground.

You can also use CV with this jack. CV operates 0-5v.

Flexi-Switch® Technology

This device features Flexi-Switch Technology! This electronic switching style allows you to simultaneously use momentary and latching style switching.

For standard latching operation, tap the footswitch once to activate the effect and then tap again to bypass.

For momentary operation, hold the footswitch down for as long as you’d like to use the effect. Once you release the switch, the effect will be bypassed.

The Afterneath uses electronic buffered bypass, it requires power to pass signal and the buffer is always active. You may experience a pop the first time the Afterneath is switched on after power up.

Tails / No Tails Switching

The Afterneath is factory set in “tails mode.” This means that the wet signal will naturally decay and slowly fade to silence after the effect is switched off.

To deactivate this feature:

Unplug the power cable from the power jack.

Hold down the footswitch and insert the power cable.

The LED will flash 3 times. You can now release the footswitch.

Follow the same steps to reactive tails mode.

Delivery

We offer FREE DELIVERY on ALL orders within the UK (excludes Highlands & Islands for courier items).

We aim to dispatch all orders placed by 2pm and in stock on the same working day.  If something is out of stock with us then we will order it from our suppliers.  If an item is also out of stock at a supplier, we will contact you with an estimated delivery date.

Standard free delivery orders are usually sent by Royal Mail unless oversize in which case they are sent by courier, and usually arrive within 3 working days.  Express delivery orders are sent on a next working day service.  For clarity, this means an order placed on Friday will be delivered on Monday.  

Delivery to the Highlands & Islands or overseas will usually take longer. 

Returns

We want you to be completely satisfied with your purchase.  We recognise there will be occasions when you wish to return an item.  We offer a no-quibble 14-day returns period.  If you wish to return an item, please contact us via e-mail with your order number and your reason for return.  We will reply within 48 hours providing full return instructions. 

All items returned under our no-quibble returns policy must be in an as-new, resaleable condition including all accessories and retail packaging.  Items where the packaging will be damaged through opening it are not eligible for no-quibble returns.  Hygiene items such as Talk Boxes, Harmonicas, Wind Instruments etc are also ineligible for returns under this policy if there is evidence they have been opened and/or used. Please pack returned items appropriately to ensure no damage in transit.  We reserve the right to refuse refunds for items that are returned in a state which renders them unfit for resale as new. 

Items that are found to be faulty on arrival or within 14 days of receipt will be replaced.  After this period we will honour the manufacturer's warranty period for repairs and items will be repaired or replaced as deemed appropriate. 

Transit Damage & Mispicks

We make every effort to ensure your order arrives complete, correct and in the condition you would expect. In the event that the package shows signs of damage, please mark this when signing for it. In this instance or if your order is incorrect for any reason, please contact us within 24 hours of delivery so that we can rectify the situation. 

CITES

CITES regulations concerning the export of items containing certain woods affect any guitar sold ouside of the European Union and which contains any quantity of either Rosewood or Bubinga.  In these cases, an additional charge of £80.00 will be levied per species after the sale to pay for the required re-export certificate.  There will be a delay in dispatching any guitar containing either Bubinga or Rosewood of up to 4 weeks while we obtain the necessary certification for export. As the charge is per species, where a guitar contains both Bubinga AND Rosewood, the charge is doubled to £160.00.  We will contact you following your purchase of any guitar containing a controlled wood and advise of the charge once you have placed the order.  You can make payment for the charge by sending a Paypal payment to us at: sales@fxpedal.co.uk. 

Note that CITES only applies to guitars containing Rosewood or Bubinga that are being exported outside the European Union.  Guitars being delivered with the United Kingdom or in the European Union will be dispatched as normal.
